ABOUT THE COURSE

The Cape Breton Deep-Dive (CBDD) course is for players with a keen interest in the Cape Breton fiddle style. The focus of the April 2023 class will be on the elusive, idiomatic playing techniques of some of the iconic Cape Breton masters, as illustrated in the pages of the DunGreen Collection (DGC). Relevant excerpts from the DGC will be provided to participants, including some unreleased material that is currently available only through this class!

As always, I will share audio and video examples from Tradition Bearers, pointing out the various techniques and special qualities I hear in each one.

Course repertoire will be available two weeks before the first workshop.

At the two included private lessons, you are welcome to bring your own repertoire to explore how to apply the course techniques in other tunes, or I can answer your questions and review anything from the workshops.

AUDITING OPTION

There is an auditing option available, which doesn’t include the private lessons. All participants including auditors will have access to the edited workshop videos and all the resources for at least two months after the end of the course.

This option is especially for:

  • Musicians who are busy during the course dates but want access to all the resources to dive into later. You are still welcome to attend the live workshops if you can.

  • Non-musicians who are curious about the inner workings of the Cape Breton style.

COURSE DATES & FEATURES

  • Three 2-hour Zoom* workshops at 11am-1pm Pacific Time on Sundays Apr 16, 23, and 30.
